Technology description
Tolvaptan (OPC-41061) is a vasopressin V2 receptor antagonist which acts on the distal portions of the nephron in the kidney, inducing the clearance of water from the kidney. Tolvaptan is in development for the treatment of decompensated heart failure.
Tolvaptan is currently in phase III trials for cystic renal disease, and is being filed for a licence for hyponatraemia.
Innovation and/or advantages
Tolvaptan is the first in a new class of vasopressin V2 receptor antagonists in development for decompensated heart failure.
